Starting your real estate business and building it to success will not only take time but will involve a lot of ups and downs. If you stick it out, you will soon realize success and failure are two sides of the same coin. Getting more success than failure is, therefore, a matter of flipping the coin enough times to land on the success side. But that does not mean overcoming failure is easy or that it can be avoided altogether. You may reach a point in your journey where failure seems absolute. At these dark moments of your life, you will need to dig deep within to find the strength to start again. In this article, I share with you three ways you can start again and turn a downturn into a massive upturn.

Quickly Seize Qualified Opportunities

Facing down failure can create a level of paralysis that makes it hard to take another step. You feel you have tried everything, and you don’t know what else to do. At such moments, you can either fold even further or choose to strike out no matter what. One thing that will remain true regardless of which option you pick is that opportunities will continue to be created and taken by others. You need to ask whether you will let them pass on to others or you will pick them up. These opportunities will come disguised as different things like problems, ideas, or suggestions. If you get into the frame of mind that is ready to pursue new opportunities, you’ll soon discover that you won’t stay down for long.

Expect the Unexpected

Markets are cyclical. They have highs and lows. If you start your business in a market high, you need to be prepared for the inevitable low that’s coming. This unexpected low could be a downturn in the market, loss of a job, or a need to move to another state suddenly. Life is full of such unexpected events. If you sit pretty expecting everything to remain rosy, you may be in for a rude shock. However, not all unexpected things are bad. Sometimes something unexpected may be a promotion or capturing an important listing. By cultivating a mind tuned for the unexpected, you will be one of the few who is not surprised when unexpected things happen, because you already anticipated they would.

Build on What You Learn

You’ve built up your real estate business, either as a broker or as an investor. What happens if you lose it all overnight? What do you do? Some people may feel they have to start building from scratch because they feel they have lost everything. Others, however, know that though you lose everything, you can never lose what you know. The knowledge and years of experience you have under your belt are the only things you truly own. So, when faced with failure, dig into these reserves and find a way to use them as building blocks for the next phase of your life. Your life as a real estate agent may be over, but your life as a real estate sales coach may just be starting.

Conclusion

Failure is never an easy thing to experience, especially financial failure. As it touches all aspects of our lives, it can have a detrimental effect on our well being. But everything is a matter of perspective, even failure. By seeing it as another opportunity to start afresh or to try things in a new way, you can harness that failure to slingshot yourself into the next step of your life. Cultivate this right perspective of looking at failure, and you’ll find yourself bouncing back easier and faster every time you fail.
