Social media is a hot topic for real estate agents. Most know there is hidden potential in using social media for marketing and brand building, but they simply struggle to get the right fit. They will set up their social media profiles, brand them nicely and then stand on the side perplexed at where to go next. They post items, but these attract zero engagement. What is the solution? The solution lies in understanding what has an impact on social media and what does not. Pure effort will not gain you traction on social media, but strategic effort will. In this post, I share with you three strategies you can apply to make your social media marketing more effective.

Stop-worthy Posts

Think for a moment of how you browse your social media feeds. Whether Instagram, Facebook or Twitter. As you scroll down, you will normally scan posts looking for something noteworthy. This fast skimming happens because you lack time to read every post and because your brain has become trained to filter out the noise on social media and home in on what has an impact. When you land on such a post, you stop. You have just happened upon a stop-worthy post. What makes this post stop-worthy? It could be that it’s something new, entertaining, funny, informative, educational or just plain unique. To create stop-worthy posts, think about your audience and what it is they find stop worthy on their social media feeds. Then go out and create the same.

Live Posts

It is true, going live in front of a camera is not easy. Most people find it uncomfortable, exposing and downright unpleasant. To make things worse, going live often means there are no fancy cameras or lighting to make you look amazing. Do not fret. That is the whole point of going live. It is to show your audience that you are a real person. The truth is, they probably do not even care what you look like. What they care about is what you have to say. Ideally, try and go live on Facebook five times a week and twice a week on Instagram. Stories are another fantastic way to engage your audience. Try to create stories daily on both Facebook and Instagram.

Scheduled Posts

Most real estate agents fail at social media marketing because they post whenever they can. That creates a situation where you are posting haphazardly, posting poor content and generally not being effective and consistent in their efforts. To keep your audience engaged, create a content calendar or a scheduling plan. What do you want to post and how often? If you are posting stories daily, create a schedule and create a week’s worth of stories, then schedule them to post them throughout the week. In general, it advisable to have all your week’s social media content created and queued up, so you have sufficient lead time to create the next week of posts.

Even as you implement these techniques, one thing you need to be careful about is keeping track of all your efforts. That means reading and replying to all comments on your content. Failing to do so means you are wasting your efforts as people will soon lose interest in your content and stop engaging.
