Think about the last time you watched a video on YouTube or Facebook. Was it engaging? Did you watch it till the end? Did you find it easier to consume than let’s say a blog post? You will probably answer yes to all three questions.

The reason is simple; video allows us to engage passively. We can watch a video while working, driving, eating, etc. Reading a blog post, on the other hand, is trickier. In this post, we’ll be telling you why you need to incorporate video in your social media posts if they are to become more engaging and memorable.

Welcome to Part Eight of our 11-part series on the social media mistakes real estate agents make that cost them leads.

Why Video?

To get a proper perspective on why video is so important, here are some stats:

  • By 2019, 80% of all consumer Internet traffic will be from consumer Internet video alone;

  • Facebook users view 8 billion videos per day;

  • YouTube reaches more viewers in the United States than any cable network;

  • 45% of Internet users watch an hour or more of video on Facebook or YouTube per day;

  • 90% of web users say product videos help in decision making;

  • Social video is responsible for a massive 1200% more shares compared to text and images combined;

  • Videos on Facebook enjoy 135% more organic reach than photo or text posts.

As you can see, video is massive. As data speeds increase across the US and video encoding becomes more efficient, expect to see video playing a greater role in the transmission of information across the Internet. Now that you have seen how important video is, let’s now look at how you can take advantage of this trend in marketing your real estate business.

Start simple

Forget about the expensive camera and microphone. Ditch the plans to purchase video editing software. Heck, you do not even need any professional lighting. Start simple. Start with your phone camera or your webcam. Shoot short videos, maybe 45 seconds to 90 seconds long and post them raw. The reason you need to start here is that you need to start as soon as today.

Don’t even prepare a script. Look into the camera and talk. Tell your audience what it is you want to communicate. Think of sitting across from a good friend of yours talking about selling homes.

Visualize their responses and just talk in a relaxed and natural way. Start this way so you can get over the most difficult part of any task, getting started.

Script next

Now that you have put out a few videos and are feeling confident, start scripting your videos. Think of what you will say and how you will say it and write it down. Focus on being natural and not as though you were reading a news reel. The point here is to make sure the points you put across are clear and exactly how you want to say them. Also, it will help you keep your videos short and to the point, while keeping you on-topic. For your script, answer questions, give suggestions, offer data and information, etc. The more information-packed the video is, the better. But we cannot stress this enough, stay as natural as possible.

Add some flavor

Finally, you are ready to go to the next step. Here, consider getting some editing work done, purchase/ rent a good HD camera, mic and lighting. Take your videos to the next level. The great thing about making this transition is that your audience will appreciate it. While they did not mind the raw videos you posted, they will appreciate the better sound quality, better image quality and overall better experience you offer them.

Video is a must. That’s what the data and statistics say. As a real estate agent seeking to differentiate themselves from the pack, you need to start integrating video into your social media marketing as soon as possible. With the Internet shifting to videos, you do not want to be left behind.
