The Biggest Reason Why We Fail or Succeed

In most cases, we often feel like success or failure is in the hands of fate. We feel like we are not in control and that whatever is meant to happen will happen. While this may be the case in the grand scheme of things, what happens to us on a day-to-day basis is more in our hands than we think.

As a real estate agent, getting that lead to say yes has more to do with you than it does with fate. So how can you influence what happens around you? How can you influence the outcome of all your interactions with leads? One word: mindset.

Mindset is the state of mind you are in when you face a situation. An example could be optimism vs. pessimism. Have you ever gone to meet a lead and all you could think about is how they will say no? That’s a pessimistic mindset. On the other hand, knowing they will say yes, no matter what, is an optimistic mindset.

Influencing your mindset, however, if where most people falter. You see your mind responds to whatever cues you send it. If you send it negative cues it will develop a negative outlook. If positive cues, a positive outlook. So, whatever you think will be the outcome, most likely will be the outcome. Or like Henry Ford once said, whether you think you can or cannot, you are right.

So how do you go about influencing your mindset? Here are three things for you to practice each morning before you start calling up your leads.

Visualization

If you can dream it, you can achieve it. Whatever you train your mind to see about your future is what it will work towards achieving. If you train it to only see gloom and doom, that is what it will work towards actualizing. To get your mind working on the right things, cultivate a habit of visualizing the best future you can conceive.

This does not mean you sit around day dreaming about luxury cruises and expensive cars. No. It means you visualize how your prospects will behave when you pitch them. How your leads will react to your offers. How each sales call will start and end favorably.

That sort of powerful visualization gives your brain specific instruction on what it should work towards achieving. If you can visualize outcomes that favor your efforts, then you will find that these are the outcomes you will mostly achieve.

Negative Self Talk

This is a real downer. This happens when you wake up in the morning and all the chatter in your brain is going on and on about how you will have a lousy day. You know you won’t close any deals today. You know that listing will go to Tom. You know Gena will close that sale and make a big commission and you won’t. All this negative self-talk not only drains all your energy, but also sets you up for failure from the get go.

The opposite of negative self-talk is self-affirmation. This is where you talk yourself into positive energy and an anticipation for success. It’s where you tell yourself today will be a good day. When I speak with Paul he will give me that listing. I will have the highest numbers by the end of this month. I will sell three houses by the end of the week. Turning this into a positive-energy mantra will help you start each day in the right mindset.

Your Environment Matters

Lastly, your mindset is tied to your environment. If your environment is dull, noisy, dirty, or stale, this will affect your mindset. Think about it for a moment. If you had to go into an office with no windows, poor ventilation, sitting on a tiny desk full of papers, and drinking terrible coffee, how would you expect to close million-dollar home sales?

Tuning your environment so it exudes positive energy will do wonders for your mindset. Open those windows, put some potted plants on your desk, take a walk every 15 minutes to get that blood flowing, take your sales calls while standing. These and more are ways you can turn your environment into a springboard that helps you launch a positive and success-oriented mindset each morning.

Your mindset can be either a powerful ally or a malignant foe. How you start your day will decide which of the two you have working beside you all through the day. Pick the powerful ally always.
