Failures are a big thing which a lot of people go through. If you look at the last hundred years of companies in general, you will see that less than 1% of them actually made it that 100 year gap. I don’t know exactly the numbers but it’s low. The matter of fact though is that a lot of companies still go into business.
Failures can happen to anybody. It can happen to you every single day. There are big failures and small failures. That is what we are going to talk about.
Macro Failures and Micro Failures
Macro failures are massive. It’s death, losing a family member, it’s major catastrophes in your life. Micro failures might be you forget your sunglasses, stub your toe, etc.
I think a lot of people let micro failures ruin their day like it was a macro failure.
One of the things, I’m proud of is the company ‘Revive Homes’. The reason is that it started because of a failure. I was employed by a big company. There were 700 employees and the company was doing billions of dollars of business. During the recession, that company went down. They lost billions of dollars of work in a matter of about six to twelve months. With that, I also lost my job along with 450 other employees. We had to find other things to do. The company went through a major dip and then came out of it.
What came from them was a dream for me. The only reason I choose to do my own business was that of the failure of my previous job. It set me up on the road to success. Now, I love this!
Because of the failure in the economy at that time, it caused me to be on the street looking for a job and after six months I couldn’t find anything and I had to do something about it. That is when I started up ‘Revive Homes’ which started my real estate career.
It actually took a couple of years before it was a big enough business to support me and my family but it eventually worked.
If I let that micro failure of losing my job and kill my momentum there would be nothing left. I know people who took their lives. I know people who left their families. It’s sad that failures controlled their lives. I know it’s a big deal when you lose your job and income but you can’t let a micro failure affect the macro part of your life. If I would let that decision or that outcome affect my life I wouldn’t be where I’m today and I’m grateful for that.
Think about little things that are going on in your life. I do have little things that happen in my life. But, if I let those little decisions ruin my day and affect the outcome of it, I will be ruining my entire day. If I let each of the little individual things that happen each day ruin me, my whole week can be screwed up.
So, you have to know your long-term goals.
What’s my outcome for 50 years from now? What are my longterm plans?
I don’t know exactly what’s going to happen. But, I should know that I have a long-term reach so I can plan for the future.
Don’t let minor failures in your life right now dictate what happens tomorrow.
Let’s talk about real estate. In real estate, I did a lot of door knocking and phone calls. If you are making phone calls, you go through a lot of failures. There are a lot of NO’s. You talk to a lot of angry and disgruntled people who don’t want to be talking to you. When you are making phone calls six to eight hours a day, you are going to go through hundreds of failures. If you let those little failures affect you, you will not pick up the phone or go door knocking the next time.
Remember, if you keep doing phone calls or door knocking you will ultimately get the success. That’s how it goes. Know your numbers and you will find success in it.
Don’t let little failures disrupt your life. Put out the fires and move forward.
Go, find your happy place and make tomorrow work.
