A lot of people need to prospect new clients to work with on a daily basis. It’s important to realize the power of an hour. As a business owner, or marketer, you do endless work in getting clients and getting stuff done. You also put efforts in regenerating every single day.
But are you maximizing your time? What do you do to set more appointments and accomplish all your work on time?
Let’s take my example.
I used to spend 4 to 8 hours on the phone. I had been prospecting on the phone for probably around 8 years now. It’s not something I do consistently now. I’m very comfortable talking on phone. I have made thousands, and thousands of phone calls. I was calling with the intention of buying homes for investors that could flip the homes or I would sell the homes to other investors. I would try to set up appointments with For Sale By Owners to help them sale. Those were my intentions when making phone calls in the real estate business.
Maybe you are in a different field like insurance, finance, etc. No matter what business you are in you will always need to get new clients and set appointments.
Today, I’m going to give ten ideas to help you maximize the appointments you get. Basically, I will be covering preparation and mindset.
Preparation
What are you going to prepare for the phone call?
Or, what are the steps you are going to take?
To help you out, I have created five steps on preparation that you’re going to implement before your begin calling.
1. To create an appointment setting cocoon - A little office, a phone booth or something where you can just shut the door, lock it and have all the privacy to get your stuff done. Another thing you can do is to choose an private area where people are not bothering you with any questions. Block yourself out and get on the phone and dial away.
2. To have a headset - Get earbuds or a headset so you won’t have to use your hand to hold all the time. You don’t want to you hand to get fatigued while making more calls due to holding the phone all the time. You want to be able to take notes, have action and movements. Having a headset will be a huge help to you while you’re making a call.
3. Know who are you calling - Most importantly, always have a plan to whom you are calling. You have to planned it out. You should know about the calls a week in advance. Have a list and know what you’re going to say. Keep the phone list in order so you can call maximum amount of people.
4. Have open times in your appointment schedule - Before you make the phone call, put it on the calendar and make it very clear. It should tell you that you will have to make 5 appointment calls a week, one each day. You have to have open blocks in your schedule where you can talk to your clients and meet with them.
5. Have your scripts up and ready - Put the scripts on the wall. Memorize them. You should prepare what you’re going to say to your client. If possible, put it on the wall where you are calling so you will be able to look all the time.
Now, Mindset
Mindset is huge. It makes or breaks you. It can definitely prevent you from calling that day and you might end up saying that I was busy that day. Have a mindset, ‘I have to call, it supports the business’.
6. Give your prospecting a name - Don’t call it prospecting! It’s lame. You have to call it something clever that you are excited about. Maybe come up with something that’s more interesting and relevant to your brand. I call mine “Hour of Power”.
7. Get your blood flowing - Before any phone calling, I would go into my office and kind of march around to get my blood flowing. If you are just sitting there hunched over it will come through your voice but if you do something to get your heart pumping and get yourself excited and motivated you will come across that way on the phone.
8. Encantations - It’s basically chanting something or getting yourself excited and pumped to make 20 calls. Or saying, ‘I command myself to make a number of calls each day’. Giving the maximum amount of energy to yourself. It helps to empower yourself.
9. Playing music - Maybe you are in an office so you don’t want to play it too load. But with headphones you can listen to some music. Listening to music will make you super charged and get your blood flowing. If your the boring type on the phone people won’t want to talk to you. But if you get yourself excited, the person on the other line will want to talk to you or you will have a better chance of them wanting to have a conversation with you.
10.Make it a game - Find a partner. Things get easy when you have a call partner. Someone to share your ideas. Someone you can go to head to head with. Plan out a contest to how many calls you’re going to make that day. Or, conduct a week contest with your partner. Make this fun and exciting. Keep the stats and numbers. If you have a team of callers then you can actually play against each other.
The more fun you have, the better mindset you will have in your business. The more preparation you do, the better appointments you will be making.
If you spend some time on the phone, these tips are surely going to help you. Even, if you don’t spend any time on the phone make some efforts and get on the phone to do something amazing with your prospects.
